COACHING

ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountability is ultimately about building trust with yourself: knowing that you are who you say you are because you do what you say you'll do. At first, accountability will seem like it's about reporting to and showing up for the group, but ultimately it's about you showing up for yourself.
Even though we have to do the actual work of changing ourselves, social accountability is powerful. We will check in with each other regularly to make sure we're staying aligned with our goals and to support each other as we encounter inevitable emotional and logistical hurdles.
Lastly, radical accountability is a philosophy we encourage you to embrace in this process and in your life. We all have legitimate reasons (and some lame excuses) why we don't do what we want to or know is best for us. In GAIN, we will encourage you to take full responsibility for yourself even though it's tempting to blame it on external factors (your childhood, genes, money, job, age, partner or lack thereof, parenthood, society, etc). If you own it, you can improve it.

Gain FAQ
How much weight will I lose?
As much as you want in reasonable, healthy amounts over time. We encourage no more than 0.5-1 lb per week. Losing more rapidly than that usually means you're losing muscle mass which hurts your metabolism. You'll come to learn, however, that weight loss isn't the main goal even though it's the most easily measurable result: it's body composition optimization (more muscle, less fat), improved metabolic lab markers, increased stamina and strength, improved mood and energy, and looking better ain't bad either.
Is this program diet specific?
No, it is suitable for those who want to follow any nutrition plan: omnivore, vegan, vegetarian, pegan, carnivore, keto, intermittent fasting, Mediterranean, or food sensitivity restricted diets.
What if I am on medication?
If you are on medication(s) and want or need to reduce or eliminate them during or after the program, we will encourage you collaborate with your PCP (Primary Care Provider) to do so. Those on blood pressure and diabetes medications will need to monitor their levels and vital signs since many patients experience normalization and improvement that require adjustments of their meds.
Can you be my PCP and manage my health conditions while doing this program?
Not currently. Once the Health Is Wealth Medical Home is established, that is exactly what we will do. For now, however, you should concurrently have your own PCP who manages and adjusts your meds, orders your labs, and makes sure you're feeling well while making lifestyle changes. We are, however, going to teach you how to advocate for yourself to your PCP (what labs and imaging to request, what questions to ask about your medications, how to initiate conversations about deprescribing, etc). If you're looking for a PCP in the Boston area, I have many recommendations and I'm happy to refer you.
Can anyone of any age do this program?
Yes, the principles and philosophies discussed are applicable for all ages. However, the age range that we allow into the program is 16+. This is only because we talk about mature topics and emotions (and also because I have a potty mouth and drop swears casually and frequently).
What sucks about this program?
1) It requires you to be coachable, so if you don't like change or being open to changing your mind, you'll think it sucks.
2) We're going to educate you and speak to you emotionally at a high level, so if you want basic, dumbed down content, this program sucks.
3) If you prefer a formal environment, don't like New Balance sneakers and t-shirts, and think professional women should wear professional attire, you will absolutely think Betsy sucks.
