Why Coaching?
Your goals are absolutely within reach, even if you’ve tried and failed before. Coaching is the bridge between wanting something and achieving it. It is an active, fun process that helps you make internal shifts that result in tangible life changes.
Coaching is all about goal setting and goal getting. It’s a powerful tool that helps you create a vision for what you want in your life and then take the needed steps to launch you out of confusion and ambivalence into action. We’ll ask you hard questions, hold space for your emotions, and push you to challenge your own assumptions and limiting beliefs.

Global Coaching Approach
At Primarily Caring and Some Swearing, we take a global coaching approach. We believe that all areas of your life are fundamentally connected and best improved together. We will simultaneously optimize physical and mental health, relationships, parenting, career satisfaction and growth, financial health, and sense of purpose and joy. No matter what your presenting problem is (depression, weight issues, marital challenges, career dissatisfaction, etc), we explore and improve all parts as one. Problems in one area directly cause problems in the others, and so too, success in one directly translates into success in the others.
We employ a unique combination of functional and nutritional medicine, the principles of behavior change science and positive psychology. Betsy’s diverse and complementary background in psychology and behavioral neuroscience, primary care, functional medicine, and coaching, makes her an excellent partner to help you tackle your hardest internal and external challenges in any and all areas of your life.
There is no topic we can’t touch.
There is nothing we can’t make better.
What is Positive Psychology?
Positive Psychology is a field of psychology that emphasizes and leverages people's strengths to improve their lives and create happiness. There is tremendous focus on:
Traditional Thinking
How did my cup get so empty?
How do I feel about how empty the cup is?
How do I view my cup as being half full rather than half empty without putting more water into it?
Who poured out my water?
How can I manage my emotions about the emptiness?

Frequently Asked Questions
How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching can be done as an adjunct to therapy, after you've "graduated" from therapy, or as a completely independent modality. I am not a licensed mental health professional and coaching is not a substitute for clinical mental health care for certain conditions. While there are some similarities between coaching and psychotherapy, they serve different needs. The primary foci of psychotherapy are identification, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders in order to alleviate symptoms, understand the underlying dynamics which created the symptoms, manage the symptoms and create coping skills. The focus of coaching is the development and implementation of strategies to achieve client-identified goals of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction. Coaching may address specific personal projects, life balance, job performance and satisfaction, or general conditions in your life, health, or profession. Coaching utilizes personal strategic planning, values clarification, brainstorming, motivational counseling, and other behavior change techniques.
How frequently do we meet and for how long?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time coaching can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek coaching in the first place. Most of my clients start with weekly sessions for the first 3-6 months and then back off to every other week or once a month depending on their progress, needs and preference. I work with some clients for 3-6 months in total and have been working with others ongoing for many years.
How long is each session?
Sessions are typically one hour but we can shift to 30 minutes over time if preferred for maintenance.
Is coaching covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans offer reimbursement for coaching through an FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) but otherwise, unfortunately, it is not currently a directly covered service at this time.
Are sessions virtual or in-person?
Virtual (by Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime) or just by phone, if preferred.
What is the cancelation policy?
I have a 48 hour cancelation policy, meaning that you are responsible for the session if you cancel or no-show later than that time frame. That being said, I am a caring, reasonable human being, so if you really need to cancel at the last minute for an extenuating reason then you can reschedule at no cost to you.
Is there any additional cost for couples, families or groups?
No. I charge by time, not by number of people involved.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, check, Venmo, bank transfer (i.e. Zelle, etc.)
How much does each 1 hour session cost?
Please schedule a Discovery Call or email me to discuss pricing.
Is there any discount for buying a package of sessions?
No, and I do this specifically because I don't ever want to be or feel salesy. My goal is to help you reach your goals in as efficient a time as we can, not to upsell you on more sessions in bulk. Many of my clients prefer to pay upfront in advance for several sessions or several months of sessions to help commit themselves to the process but many also just pay session-by-session.
Can you collaborate and communicate with my PCP and/or therapist?
Absolutely. I am happy to help work with any of the professionals or other individuals (friends, family) in your life that help you or matter to you.
